The Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine was initially founded in 2011 in Heraklion. In the year 2017 the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine obtained a new legal form, based in Athens and as that was also officially recognized by the Hellenic State. The members of the Society are medical doctors who have obtained a license with a Forensic Medicine specialty in Greece or a license abroad that has been recognized in Greece. Τhe Society is managed by a nine membered Board of Directors elected for a 3 year- term.

The purpose of the Society is to promote and to modernize the education (undergraduate, postgraduate and specialization), the practice and the official representation of Forensic Medicine in national and international level.
